Edward VIII

Edward VIII was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, fromJanuary 1936 until his abdication onDecember the same year.

Edward was born onJune 1894 at White Lodge, Richmond Park, on the outskirts of London during the reign of his greatgrandmother Queen Victoria. He was the eldest son of the Duke and Duchess of York . His father was the son of the Prince and Princess of Wales . His mother was the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Teck . At the time of his birth, he was third in the line of succession to the throne, behind his grandfather and father. As a greatgrandson of the monarch in the male line, Edward was styled His Highness Prince Edward of York at birth.
